How to set up an on-demand virtual machine on a linux host

Out of a curious situation I had the need to make a remote-controlled virtual machine on a linux host to start automatically on-demand, i.e. when a connection is opened. You can view my solution on this site.

My father got a really cheap color scanner from ebay, but that thing was also really old. The best available drivers are for Windows 2000.

That is why I installed Windows 2000 in a VirtualBox VM on a linux server. Now we even have a network scanner...
